Disability Tax Credit

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) provides the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) for eligible taxpayers that are affected by a variety of medical conditions and situations that require more time to complete daily functions than on average. You may be eligible for the DTC if a medical practitioner certifies that you have a severe and prolonged impairment in a variety of the categories, significant limitations in two or more categories, or receive therapy to support a vital function. The CRA needs a completed Form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate, certified by a medical practitioner, to determine if an individual is eligible for the credit. The DTC is applied annually on your tax return. A tax return can only be processed with the DTC after this determination is made.

For more information about the DTC, or the application process, please visit Canada.ca/Disability tax credit.
